The resources to build Sögur's core ecosystem are funded from proceeds raised by early supporters and contributors, who supported Sögur prior to the launch of its economy.

Thus, such supporters and contributors should naturally receive compensation commensurate with their risk. However, high prospects can only come with high volatility; ironically, the exact issue Sögur seeks to reduce.

To reconcile this tension, early supporters and contributors are recompensed not with SGR tokens, but with a different token called Saga Genesis (SGN), a voucher token convertible to SGR. The amount of SGR receivable per SGN token - the ‘conversion ratio’ - depends on the strength of Sögur's economy: when small, risk remains high and each SGN is convertible into less than 1 SGR; as the economy grows, the conversion ratio of SGN rises accordingly and surpasses 1 SGR.

This is aimed at aligning the interests of early backers with those of the community while allowing Sogur to raise funds to develop the tokens and the project without giving away any equity in the project and without using funds used to purchase SGR (which are deposited into the reserve in full, and never used by Sögur).
